Moore River and Guilderton
Chief Explorer Adam took his family up to Guilderton for a day by the beach and the river. Here is how he got on:
If you are looking for a nice relaxing day within an hours drive north of Perth then the Moore River at Guilderton could provide you with a great option.
Beach and River in one place
Guilderton has the benefit of both a calm river and the power of the ocean within a stones throw of each other, which means you can chop and change between the two. Some people like to have a relaxing swim in the river whilst others like to roll with the waves.
Perfect for Kayaks
As the river is blocked from directly joining the sea by a large sand bar, the waters at the mouth of the Moore River are nice and calm. As a result you will see lots of people paddling around on their kayaks, which you can either bring with you or hire at the weekends and public/school holidays from a kiosk by the main car park.
BBQ and Picnics
There are plenty of shelters and grassy areas upon which you can setup for the day and have a picnic. The communal BBQs were busy but there always seemed to be one that was available.
Cafe and General Store
At the entrance to Guilderton Caravan Park there is a large car park which is nearest to the beach and river mouth. There is also a cafe and general store where you can pick up snacks or items you may have forgotten before heading up to Guilderton. For the little ones there is a playground for when they get bored of the beach and river.
Great Day Out
Guilderton is a lovely little place that kept all the members of my family busy all day long. I would recommend it as a good day out if you want to break from the norm and do something slightly different a bit further afield.
Heading further north along the WA coastline lies the amazing Coral coast, with rugged scenery and amazing marine life. Why not hop on our 3 Day Pink Lake, Pinnacles & Kalbarri tour for an unforgettable experience.
